![]() Diabetic Cat Care Financial Aid |
Those of us familiar with FD, and the medical complications that can sometimes arise, know treating the disease can become expensive. In today's very tough economy, some folks simply do not have the money to be able to buy insulin, syringes, test strips and meters, or pay for expensive vet visits, drugs and procedures for their diabetic cats - in some very dire cases, even buying low carb food is a financial challenge. DCC members needing financial aid are encouraged to approach an Advanced Member at DCC to determine what avenues for assistance might be best suited to help.
Please note that at the top of each and every forum page there is a PayPal Donate Button available for members to contribute to DCC's cause (you do not require a PayPal account to make a donation). Donations are anonymous and are used to pay site costs, purchase ongoing supplies for the Diabetic Cat Kits as well as assist fellow members in financial need.
Please do not post personal requests for donations on open forum as it is against DCC forum policy for individuals to directly request donations from fellow members. Depending on the circumstance, DCC may put out a "call to members" to help another member financially. Please contact an Advanced Member if you are finding that you are having financial difficulties caring for your diabetic cat.
In an effort to help with the costs of treating our FD cats, please make use of DCC's Diabetic Cat Kits initiative. These "starter" kits contain most of what you will need to start TR as quickly as possible. For more information about the program please click here.
Diabetic Cats in Need (DCIN) is a not-for-profit organization working diligently to keep North American diabetic cats in their original and adoptive homes, rehoming unwanted diabetic cats, and helping to educate caregivers on the appropriate treatment for diabetes in cats. DCIN is doing a wonderful job and their efforts are supported by DCC. The DCIN Case Manager for DCC is Pam/User ID pjhawk - send her a PM if you need assistance.
CareCredit Many patients put off treatments and procedures because they cannot afford to pay. DVMs offer CareCredit payment options as an alternative to consumer credit cards, cash or checks. CareCredit allows you to pay over time instead of a lump sum prior to treatment. Offering CareCredit removes the accounts receivable responsibilities from the vet and allows them to focus on recommending and providing the best care to their patients.
Best Friends is another organization that helps pet owners with financial aid, particularly with spay/neuter procedures.
There are lots of other US based organizations who will also help, and PGAA has them listed by state, with some information on each group.
